I don't what great grandad James was doing in London when he married Alice, his second wife. I know that he and his first wife were Chelmsford way (Essex) when she died in an air raid. She worked in a munitions factory. He was in the both the first and second war. My mum says James was in ww2 as a reservist? As he was quite old by this time. He also had TB at some point but was clear before my mum was born in 1960. However mum had to have medication and regular chest X-rays in her early life and was told this was because James had had TB. Perhaps he was in a hospital in isolation at some point? I know that in 1901 he was a lodger in Cambridge - not sure what his occupation was tho. Although his brother Robert did lodge in Cambridge before ww1 as a farm labourer so it's feasible that that's what James was doing. Alice was quite a bit younger than James. She was a seamstress as mum recalls. Mum said she remembers staying in Brixton with Alice when she was young with some of her cousins. Maybe Alice went into service and that's how her and James.
