Shared note | Possibly the J Sterry mentioned in offence details for prisoner Patrick Garland, aged 19, of the ship HMS Boadicea in the General Register of Mountjoy Prison 1918. Patrick Garland received 'Hard Labour' for 42 days for '(1) refuse to land for rifle drill (2) use abusive language to 2nd hand J Sterry'. The committal court for this offence was Commander Hobson, H.M.S. Boadicea, Naval Base, Kingstown, 25-7-18. It may be assumed that J Sterry was 2nd hand also on the HMS Boadicea in July 1918. [Find My Past: Collections from Ireland: Irish Prison Registers 1790-1924: Prison MOUNTJOY, County DUBLIN]
However, according to John's marriage certificate he was Petty Officer HMS 'Joseph Anderson' Naval Base Kingstown in June 1918.
Lived at 14 Deansgrange, Blackrock from at least the burial of his son Horace in 1922 until the burial of his wife in 1946. [Source: Deansgrange Cemetery Records]
Also lived at 4 Sextons Cottages, Deansgrange according to his g.daughter Patricia Dunne.
Received War Medals for service in World War 1 in Royal Navy Reserves.

On mobilisation in 1914, the RNR consisted of 30,000 officers and men. [Wikipedia] |
