Shared note
Edward farmed the old family place in Starks, Maine which his father had established in 1791. He built a house on the place in 1821 which was still standing as of 1970 on what became Chicken Street, on the road which goes by the Starks corn canning factory. This house replaced his father's log cabin. Edward is said to have walked once from Starks Maine to Boston, Massachusetts to see his half sister, Mrs Ebenezer Clough. Edward served in the War of 1812 as a private in Captain George Gray's Co., Lt. Col. James Waugh's 2nd Massachusetts regiment which was raised in Starks in 1814. Edward only served a half month but received a land grant for his service, and his widow a pension. In 1878 his widow in her pension application described him as having been 5'11" and having dark brown hair, blue eyes, and a fair complexion.
