Estate of James Sterry
Died Pottsville, Schuylkill County

This day before me Richard Rahn Register for the Probate of Wills and granting Letters of Administration in and for the County of Schuylkill and State of Pennsylvania personally came Sarah Sterry of the Boro of Pottsville Schuylkill County aforesaid and made application for Letter of Administration upon the estate of James Sterry late of the Boro of Pottsville, County and State aforesaid, deceased, and who, being duly sworn, doth depose and say that the said James Sterry died on the 29th day of October A.D. 1879 at 4 o’clock AM as nearly as can be ascertained from the information received and; further saith not.

I Richard Rahn Register for the Probate of Wills and granting Letters of Administration in and for the County of Schuylkill To Sarah Sterry Administratrix of James Sterry late of the Boro of Pottsville, decd
Whereas the said James Sterry lately died intestate (as is affirmed) whilst he lived, and at the time of his death divers goods, chattels right and credits within the said county, by means whereof the full disposition and power of granting the administration of all and singular the goods, chattels, rights and credits, which were of the said deceased within the said county, and also the auditing the accounts, calculations and reckonings of the said administration and the final dismission of the same, to me is manifestly known to belong. I’ desiring that the goods, chattels, rights and credits of the deceased may be well and truly administered, do hereby grant unto you, the said Sarah Sterry in whose fidelity in this behalf I very much confide, full power by the tenor of these presents, to administer the goods, chattels, rights and credits, which were of the said deceased, within the said county, and also to ask, collect, levy, recover and receive the credits whatsoever of the said deceased, which at the time of his death were owing to him did any ways belong, and pay the debts in which the said deceased stood obliged, so far forth, as the goods, chattels, right and credits will extend according to their rate and order of law, especially of well and truly administering the goods, rights and credits of the said deceased, and make a true and perfect inventory thereof, and exhibiting the same into the Register’s Office, in the County of Schuylkill, within thirty days from the date hereof, and further do make or cause to be made a just and true account of your administration within one year from the date hereof, or when thereunto legally required, and that you will well and truly comply with the laws of this Commonwealth relating to Collateral Inheritances; and if it shall hereafter appear that any last Will and Testament was made by the said deceased, and the same shall be proved according to law, if you being thereunto required, do surrender the said Letters of Administration into the Register’s Office aforesaid. And I do by these presents ordain, constitute and appoint, you, the said Sarah Sterry Administratrix of all and singular the goods, chattels, rights and credits, which were of the said deceased within the limits aforesaid, saving harmless and forever indemnifying me and all other officers against all persons whatsoever, by reason of your administration aforesaid, and saving to all others their rights.

The real estate of said decedent, consisting of a lot of ground with two houses and other improvements thereon erected, situate in the Borough of Pottsville we appraise and value at the sum of fifteen hundred dollars. And the balance of two hundred and forty one 70/100 dollars the widow of the said James Sterry deceased claims to have out of the real estate of said decedent.

Affidavit

Henry Lewis and Richard Freeman being duly sworn do say, that they will well and truly and without prejudice and partiality, value and appraise the goods, chattels and credits, or lands and tenements which were of James Sterry late of the Boro of Pottsville, in the county of Schuylkill, and State of Pennsylvania, deceased, which the widow of the said decedent shall elect to take, in pursuance of the several acts of Assembly allowing to widows of decedents property to the value of three hundred dollars, and in all respects perform their duty as appraisers, to the best of their skill and judgment. And further saith not.

Inventory and Appraisement
Of the goods and chattels, rights and credits, lands and tenements, which were of James Sterry late of the Boro of Pottersville in the county of Schuylkill, state of Pennsylvania, deceased, which Sarah Sterry the widow of the said deceased, elects to take in pursuance of the several acts of assembly, allowing to the widow and the family of decedents property to the value of htree hundred dollars, viz:

I hereby elect to retain at the appriasement the personal property in the list hereto attached amounting to $58 30/100 under the provisions of the Act of Assembly setting aside property to the value of $300 to the widow of decedents and as to the balance of said exemption to wit the sum of $241 30/100 I elect to have the same paid to me out of the real estate of the said James Sterry, deceased.
