In the 'Deeds of Endowment' section, there is a list of all the deeds between 1380 and 1480, but exact dates are not given for each of them. One of the deeds is
'John Sterya confirms to John Goldsmith ( Mayor ), and other burgesses, and to Walter Haywood and Simon Haywoode, wardens of the Long Bridge, and their successors, three gardens opposite the Castle having the way leading to the castle on the west'.
There is another section dealing with 'Presentments at Courts of Frankpledge, items relating to entertaining strangers. I quote 'It is ordered by the Court that no person or persons do receive or take into his or their howse or howses any inmate or inmates on pain of forfeiture of ten pounds for every offence...... the number of persons presented for breach of this order was very numerous, of which the following are instances ' One of the instances quoted is for October 1688 is 'John Shepheard for receiving Thomas Sterry, with his wife and 2 boys'

Parracombe Parish Registers
Although there are no Sterry entries in the baptisms, marriages, and burials, in many ways this proved to be the most interesting document. In the preface to the registers, there is a review, which lists the names of the Parish Rectors from 1308 to 1916. It says that on 26th June 1445 SIR JOHN STERY became Rector of Parracombe ! I am not sure how significant knighthoods were in those days, but we would appear to have another Sterry of some renown!

Barnstaple Feoffments Index
